This week’s Suburban Wisdom King of the Assholes award goes to Boston Marathon fake bomber, Kevin Edson.

A year after the Boston Marathon terrorist attack, Kevin Edson showed up at this year’s Boston Marathon with a fake bag of bombs, earning him this week’s King of the Assholes designation.

On Wednesday morning, Boston police identified Kevin Edson, 25, of Boston, as the man who scared the shit out of many showing up at the Boston Marathon seemingly laden with explosives. Fortunately Edson was arrested and charged with threatening battery, “possession of a hoax explosive device” and disturbing the peace, among other things.

While Kevin Edson claims to be a performance artist, and his mother says he has mental health issues, according the Associated Press, he’s still a major league asshole.

The entire incident unfolded on the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing, a day marked with tributes to the victims of that attack and its aftermath. This year’s marathon is set for Monday, with organizers preparing for a much larger crowd of spectators, an expanded field of runners and heightened security.

While there’s always Kim Jong Un, Vlad Putin and MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell to fall back on when looking for a King of the Assholes, O’Donnell was just in a bad car wreck and also claims to be a macho guy reared on the streets of Boston, so it’s not really fair to kick him while he’s down and my heart is with Boston at this time.

But the Boston Marathon Bag Dropper, Kevin Edson – Who is he and how did he turn out to be such a Colossal Asshole?

Well, again, according to Edson’s mom, the deranged punk has “mental health issues”.

Wait … what? Really? What a surprise. I mean who else shows up at the Boston Marathon finish line, barefoot and yelling while carrying a backpack with replicas of last year’s Boston Marathon terrorist’s weapons of choice inside?

While Edson had rice cooker “bomb”, like the real Boston terrorists, it turned out to be benign, though it was real enough for police to shut down Boylston Street, suspend train service in the area and blow up the 2 backpacks that Edson had brought with him. Sounds like Edson’s mental health issue is that he’s an asshole.

Edson wasn’t just barefoot, but also reportedly wearing a veil and a hat when Police initially caught up with him, this week’s King of the Assholes also reportedly chanting “Boston Strong” at the time.

In the end, mental illness or not, having the wherewithal to do what Kevin Edson did cancels out any mental health excuses. People with genuine mental health issues I’m sure would agree.
